It is this book that succinctly distinguishes Walter Isaacson as a master biographer. In writing the story of Einstein, not only does he coin the scientist's life as a litany of scientific realities derived from the cosmos, but also dwells deep into the character nuances of Einstein. We are shown his true self, his religion, foibles, humanness relative to his theories. Above all, this book shows that Einstein was a political animal, for which elements of the American civil liberties can jocund, and even the genesis of academic freedom and free speech may be traced. We cannot, but appreciate such an exposition of Albert Einstein, the Rebel and Loner who changed the understanding of the world beyond what we see now.

Excellent. Interweaves the personal life and the science very effectively. Comprehensive but engaging.

Absolutely outstanding biography of Time magazines man of the 20th century. There have been many biographies of Einstein but none achieve what Isaacson has done by interweaving the science, personality of the man, and make it come alive during the fascinating era he lived through in history. It is a long book (550 or so pages of main text plus over 100 more of references and supporting material) but so worth the read. I hated when it came to its end. Throughout I laughed out loud at the many quotes from this genius. He truly was an amazing man, so worthy of learning about.

Wonderful comprehensive biography of arguably the greatest man in human history. Very readable and covers all aspects of Einstein's life. And what a storied and varied life the man led. I feel like I kinda know Albert Einstein personally, after reading this. I learned quite a lot about Einstein's science too. I should buy a copy of this book for my personal library. Definitely a keeper!
