The Love Dare begins: “Receive this as a warning. This forty day journey cannot be taken lightly. It is a challenging and often difficult process, but an incredibly fulfilling one …. If you will commit to a day at a time for forty days, the results could change your life and your marriage. Consider it a dare, from others who have done it before you.”Written by Stephen & Alex Kendrick, two brothers who love making movies that honor God, this book goes with the movie “Fireproof,” and many couples have used it to improve their marriages. Over 5 million copies have been sold.“Fireproof” is perhaps the most significant movie about marriage ever made. Not just entertainment, it helps open a door to couples who don’t want to divorce but who don’t know what to do to improve things. As the idea for the movie developed, so did this "Love Dare" book. "The Love Dare” was on the New York Times Bestseller list for 130 weeks; and twice #1. Available worldwide in 23 languages., and the “Amazon” of the Christian book world, “Christian Book Distributors” ( have other related materials, like “The Love Dare Day by Day Devotional,” (52 weekly challenges) and “The Love Dare Day by Day Wedding Edition.” Small group materials have been developed for those wanting to meet and learn with other couples. There are Leader’s materials, and a couple’s DVD kit. The “Fireproof" official movie trailer is posted with my (Sam-I-Am) review. (Search this library catalog for “Fireproof” and click on “video” at the bottom of the page.) Or see YouTube. The book’s site is . Some other “Love Dare” and “Fireproof” sites (some with communities to join or free logs) are ; Another site is, which has free downloads, including the first “Love Dare” chapter at . “The Love Dare” is helpful both for those in already stable marriages and for those whose spouse has become their “enemy.” Both people don’t have to do it—even one spouse can begin. It’s challenging. Imagine having the guts to ask your spouse (or anyone!) “What are three things I do that drive you crazy?” Or simply choosing to show kindness in simple direct, practical ways on a daily basis. The book does not deal directly with issues like when marriage may need to end due to physical abuse, or promise every marriage will be improved. It can help in many marriages. There are 21,498 testimonials at by those who’ve tried it (as of today, 11-23-12). There’s wisdom in this book.

This book is right up there with The 5 Love Languages. I feel this is a "must read" for anyone who is in a relationship that is looking for growth.
