I really like Carlos Ruiz Zafon's work, but this one struck me as a little too cut from the same cloth as his previous work, plus it had the drawback of a protagonist one doesn't necessarily fel obligated to root for or even empathize with overmuch. Good work by the narrator, it should be said.

This is a very long book, with overtones of the supernatural. Actually, it may have more than overtones; I'm not sure because I didn't finish the book. About half-way through I felt that it was all of a sameness, predictable, and taking too long to tell the tale, so I stopped listening. Someone who likes gothic tales of the supernatural might like it, though.

I think it's written well enough, but I definitely found it too long. And I didn't like the main character.
