I have no idea what the earlier commenter is talking about as relates to this book. (I doubt he read it.) The book's from 2009 but very timely re the Trump administration's concern with trade deficits. According to the author, the supply demand dynamics that price floating currencies involve much more than import export trade balances. For example, because the US does a lot of direct investment, has production done locally, and then repatriates the profits, trade balances don't really capture the benefits to the US. And the strength of the dollar isn't a function of trade balances. Learned a lot. A worthwhile read.

Amazing, a professional stooge from the oldest private wealth management bank in America, Brown Brothers Harriman, is propagating more myths. His opinions and premises are easily destroyed by anyone familiar with today's news (meaning the financial news over the past 5 years): just look at the investigations underway, and those which have been completed, on all the rigging of the various markets, and the bankers around the world now being murdered or "committing suicide": 12 in Switzerland, one per week from JP Morgan Chase, several involving Deutsche Bank, one from Russell Investments and others - - all under investigation by the American Department of Justice and the British Financial Conduct Authority. [Dollar update as of 03/24/14: Russia has not done deals to trade oil and gas with India and China in currencies other than the US Dollar, while Iran has done a deal with China to do likewise.]
