Loosely based on the book 'Sex and the single girl' by Helen Gurley Brown. Snoopy tabloid magazine editor Bob Weston wants to know if author Helen Gurley Brown based her book on, as he believes, personal research. He tries to parley an interview with the author who made headlines and sales. So he decides to get very personal to find out for himself.

There's a running Jack Lemmon joke, and a 13 and a half minute car chase to close out the film. Lauren Bacall keeps calling Natalie, 'kid,' there's a question whether it is a Tony Curtis film, or a Ms. Wood. Natalie has looked awfully pretty in a lot of films. She does so, here, also, along with taking the (requisite, for her) dip into the cold water, this time, off of a pier. This film has nothing to do with the book written by the publisher of the famous women's magazine, COSMOPOLITAN, Helen Gurley Brown....except for the title, which they share. Natalie shows a fine sense of comedic timing, and has no difficulty in keeping up with the older actors in the cast. This film features one of the first appearances of the great Larry Storch ( F-Troop), as a highway patrolman. Also featured is the wonderful Count Basie Orchestra. Henry Fonda has a thankless role as Bacall's henpecked husband, who is somehow mistaken for Tony Curtis' character. There are alot of good looking actresses in the cast, but none compares to sweet Natalie Wood. outside of documentaries, i've never seen as much footage of lesser primates, as there is in this film, during a scene where curtis and wood go for a date at the zoo. is there chemistry between the two stars? i should say so. Natalie has a sultry voice, too. she could well have gone on to a career in radio had she not perished off Catalina Island (not trying to say she'd lost her looks, by then). Two Harbors, it was. she tried to dog paddle to shore, but didn't make it. unaccountably, rj delayed notifying the coast guard, for HOURS. whilst she struggled for her life. those who espouse the wisdom of ' karma:' i ask ye, what did natalie ever do to deserve this? she probably got David Begelman in trouble by complaining that she thought of the CHARLIES ANGELS idea, and received no credit, no royalties. Did she lack the spectacular figure of Jill St. John? why, yes, i do believe so. that doesn't fit into my understanding of the deserving- to- drown karmic theory.
