Gen X: Defining Moments in Pop Culture

Generation X, the forgotten middle child of American generations, is getting old. Born between 1965 and 1980, we are now middle-aged and the subject of New York Times thinkpieces. We used to be at the forefront of cool but were kind of forgotten between the heyday of the Baby Boomers and a surge of Millennials. The movie Reality Bites turns 25 this year, and it remains a touchstone film for… (more)

An excellent movie that sparked the acting careers of Ice Cube and Cuba Gooding Jr. Boyz N the Hood is really heavy and emotionally effective.

This movie speaks upon and brings forward the reality and hardships from living on the streets. Although, this movie is fiction it displays the non-fiction truth that people, and society are still facing today. This movie directed by John Singleton, targets your emotions and has you thinking twice about situations that are targeting minority groups. To end off, this is an amazing, and emotional movie.

This DVD movie was entertaining and interesting but not one of my favorite for this year. Not too bad---good performance. Very predictable but still entertaining.

Beware, crude language and reality based violence! This 1991 film is probably one of the best at depicting what urban African-American youth have to go through in an attempt to survive. See an all star cast of Cuba Gooding, Jr, Ice Cube, Angela Bassett, Laurence Fishburne, and Morris Chestnut. Laurence Fishburne plays the knowledgeable adult who understands that the establishment forces are the root of violence in the African-American community and African-American youth are victims of those establishment forces.

John Singleton's best film that is extremely TIMELESS and forever relevant period.I just saw it again recently and it will always hold up extremely well because the hood in real life will never get better at all period!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

John singleton really got this movie right because I lived in LA and what the movie showed was really how it was living in the hood. And just like Doughboy said in the movie "Either they don't know, or they don't show, or they just don't give a ****," it's true. The only sad part of the movie is that black men killing each others for stupid reasons (colors, turf, etc.). But Tre showed that you can overcome tragic situations to better yourself to be a normal human being in spite of overwhemling odds.
