That's why she took the long subway ride down to Greenwich Village, home of the Beats and the stoners, home to every kind of misfit and dropout and free spirit you could imagine. The Library Journal blurb states that this was originally published "back to 1961, when it was published under another title, with Block using another name." Maybe he never should have claimed it under his name. I've read other novels from Block and have liked them, but this one seemed to move at a slow pace, the characters not really well drawn, and I felt like a beatnik was telling the story with a snap of fingers and a yeah daddy-o every few seconds. (The reader does not sound like this, it was the story that almost put me to sleep). This didn't seem to stand up to the 'time travel' from 1961. Stopped not quite half-way through. The only reason I held on that long was due to previous experience with Block and thinking "this has got to get better", but it didn't.
