Noted that it was originally released in 1965 when wildlife and nature films were made popular in programs like Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom (1963 - 1988.) Probably still an intense adventure for early teens with some parental guidance because of the earlier footage of naked natives and violence.
If you ask me - This 1966 "Man-As-The-Hunted" story certainly could've been a helluva lot better. Yes. Indeed. It also could have been a helluva lot shorter, too. (Like, by about 30 minutes, I'd say)
And it also could have used some subtitles, because almost no English was spoken since most of the characters ended up being African tribesmen who spoke their own lingo.
Set in the wilds of Africa in the 1800s, "Naked Prey" not only starred Cornel Wilde as the story's principal character, but it was also directed by him, as well.
Yes. I will admit that "Naked Prey" was very well-photographed (the many shots of African wildlife were excellent), but, with that aside, its story was just a little too predictable to hold this viewer's undivided attention for its 96-minute running time.
Naked Prey's biggest problem (which rendered its story far from being believable) was that Wilde's character was just a little too resourceful for a white man who was stuck in the life-or-death predicament that he was.
Nothing special. If you think watching a nearly naked man running through the African savannah, pursued by men hellbent on killing him is amusing, then this film is for you. The only reason why I gave it a full star is my kudos to the protagonist's resourcefulness.
Stone cold CLASSIC !!!! Almost no dialogue and great music. I have loved this movie since seeing it on cable in junior high . Mesmerizing 420
Produced, directed & starring Cornel Wilde, based on a real life story of an outdoorsman being tracked by the Blackfoot Indians. Wilde adapted the story to a Safari Guide in Africa, to save on shooting costs. I heard a lot about this film and glad to have finally seen it. I can see why it was revolutionary for it's time, but can seem dated now. Wilde definitely implores the phrase "Less is More" in his film-making. Worth a watch.
Good low budget movie about a nightmare situation. Worth a look.
Cornel Wilde is physically magnificent at age 54.
A classic: man v. man; man v. nature. This is the ultimate life-or-death marathon.
Another Cowboys Vs Indians film,,, the "civilized" out-smarting & defeating the "uncivilized savages".
The same old worn out fiction for a film,,, WASTE OF TIME.
