This was a cute and clever mystery! It was more suspenseful than I thought it would be. It is very dated, but you have to remember it is from 1938.

This is the fifth in a series of eight films starring Peter Lorre as Mr. Moto (元 賢太郎)---a Japanese International Police Detective.
The film is based on the character of Mr. Moto created by John P. Marquand, from an original screenplay by Philip MacDonald and Norman Foster.
Although I've seen quite a few films in which Peter Lorre stars as in "The Maltese Falcon", I'm really amazed to see how genuinely he looks like a Japanese in this film.
He even throws out bad guys using Judo skills.
It is a thrilling and action-filled entertaining film.
