A rather gory and simple movie, the only redeeming qualities being the "good", or moral, characters (James, Mason, and Hank) and the effects. Still fun to watch, though.
This is an action movie that capitalizes on visual special effects and pays almost no attention to giving a quality story. Is it my imagination or did the female photographers (upper body) anatomy get bigger as the movie progressed? It seemed to me that it did.
To be fair, the title clearly indicates this is a giant monster movie so viewers should expect special effects and not high calibre theatre. Despite similarities, it is thankfully far better than the terrible 2012 film Mysterious Island (hardly based on Verne's novel), about on par with the Jurrasic Park films but nowhere near as cool as Pitch Black. On the whole, it wasn't bad and I'll let a few minor points beyond belief spoil themselves. There is a closing scene after the credits.
If you are in to giant monster fights, this is the movie for you! I was not expecting this movie to be like that, so I was kind of disappointed. It would have been better to have focused more on the culture of the island, in my opinion, rather than take up most of the time with giant monster fights. But the ending promised more giant monster fight movies - so if you like that, keep an eye out!
A thrilling adventure with an all-star cast! I enjoyed this modern take on the classic King Kong story, with fantastic visual effects and new twists. Makes you think about the way we respond to that which we fear, but ultimately is unknown.
Movie was good. I liked it. Final scene intriguing. King Kong must've had a clean-up crew,; ironically we were wondering, massive ape but no 'waste' lying anywhere on the island...;)
Looking forward to next chapter.
Delivers the goods (Kong's roar) in first 10 mins. Rest of movie pretty ok. Good popcorn movie.
It was a good fantasy movie, filled with beautiful scenery and a good storyline. The actors were great, and it had its comedic moments as well.
Why does Kong walk upright like a man? Why didn't SLJ just come out and say he was tired of these mf'ing apes on his mf'ing island? Did I miss anything cool during the parts I slept through? So many unanswered questions.
That's 2 hours of my life ill never get back. The only way to watch this is free from the library and I'm still not sure id recommend that. I kept feeling sorry for poor Tom Hiddleston who up to this point has done some pretty good movies. Robert Taylor's talent was completely wasted as well. There's a couple of good comic moments by John C. Reilly, but its not enough to improve the quality of this flick. Samuel L. Jacksons character was unimaginative. Bad, evil man. Must kill big monkey. Its just bad, with a bad script and moments that are just ridiculous. One review stated that leaving your brain at the door was a good idea when watching this movie. I agree. You'd think at some point the actors would take a moment while filming this movie and say " This movie is going to suck". Example. A man is getting pulled in all directions by prehistoric birds. They manage to rip off his arm at the shoulder joint, while pulling on his briefcase. Personally I think he would of let go of the briefcase before having his arm ripped off. Silly, illogical moments like that pepper the entire movie. They would of been better to commit to making this a full out comedy.
Kong fan I am but saving Jessica Lang this was not. This version switched romance with special effects. They left the obvious opening for a sequel to the end, I hate that
Probably the worst mainstream movie I've seen in some time. Appalling writing. Obsessive slow motion helicopter shots. Not even fun bad. Just bad.
A good action packed romp through the island. Good guys, bad guys, and lots of action.
As a Kong film this one is not half as good as the one by Peter Jackson. Plot is a stretch. Watch it only if you are a Kong fan.
Lots of action and special effects . Great entertainment if you are expecting lots of action, unbelievable plot and lots of special effects. Great way to while away a rainy day, or a sick day.
Semi-entertaining. Liked the John C Reilly character but the rest were just mediocre. This is just like all the other Kong movies. Don't expect much.
+1 Disc played
+1 Great action scenes
+1 Kong is a super cool character
-1/2 Characters in film
Plot differs from original story, but is one that's been done plenty of times before. Too much time is spent on a blind quest for revenge.
Characters and story are cliched to death but the graphics are impressive and there are a few entertaining moments (mainly John C. Reilly).
I thought this was pretty good. A cross between Jurassic Park, Godzilla and Predator. Remember to keep watching after the credits, 'cause there's an extra scene showing coming attractions.
Good Movie, I hate that you get to see Samuel L. Jackson again(give someone else some work)
The Movie explains the need for Kong.
TH watched this movie twice in one day! I thought this was a good monster movie as well and I appreciated the "old school" treatment--no gore and guts, just blood and screaming. Some interesting camera angles chosen; as TH said for one of the helicopter crashes you "see thru the eyes of the chopper". Perfect film to kick back and enjoy after a long week at work. :)
