I found it very hard to watch so I didn't watch past 30 minutes, its not a story that the Australians and New Zealand population want to remember what a disaster by the British. They sent the Australian and New Zealand forces in there to…

I enjoyed this low-key story of a gentle father who sets out to recover the bodies of the sons he lost to war. There’s a fanciful aspect to the story in that he has the ability to see things others can’t, but this isn’t a supernatural…

After war's enmities and suspicions are past, a glimpse of how basic human emotions are universally shared.
Russell Crowe gives a strong, softly determined performance as a father suffering from an unbearable sense of loss.
Well made,…

I cannot stand films about real events that provide little or no historical context. The Ottoman Empire fought on the side of the Germans during WWI. There was a reason why the Australians fought at Gallipoli. As First Lord of the…

Probably one of the most moving of Crowe’s roles since Cinderalla Man. A moving blend of spirituality, history, religion, war, and family drama. This movie makes you feel you are back 100 years ago to the waning days of the Ottoman…
July 4 2018.....I really enjoyed this.....but what was in that cup of coffee at the end????......I see the book is available in audio in our library system....I hope if I listen to that it will explain?
Wonderful movie full of emotions of a father who lost his 3 sons in a war battle and his wife who takes her life. Story filled with deep emotions, sensitivity and deep and real love. Great acting performance of Russell Crowe. Worth it to…

Directed by Russell Crowe in 2014 loosely based on the book of the same name by Andrew Anastasios and Dr Meaghan Wilson-Anastasios, this docudrama depicts the journey to Galipoli of an Australian farmer, Joshua Connor (Crowe), who travels…

I found Russell Crowe's directorial debut fairly good, but found that the editing could have been tighter, and found it to be a somewhat unlikely ending.
For someone that does not know the events, the beginning scene seemed confusing and…

Fairly good film about a father (Russell Crowe) who travels to Gallipoli after WWI to retrieve the bodies of his dead/missing(?) sons. Turkey was still fighting with the Greeks and for national independence at the time (1919). Rather…

Not particularly believable, but nevertheless an awesome movie. I enjoyed a glimpse of a piece of history that I know almost nothing about. It was filmed on location in Australia & Turkey. I enjoyed seeing places I won't ever see in person.
I've been waiting for a film about Gallipoli and its aftermath, and this is it! Russell Crowe puts in a performance that reminds me of his "Gladiator" days.

I liked this film and would have given it a higher rating had it not been for the historical revisionism that casts the Turks as unmitigated victims of Greek aggression. I'm not saying Turks should have been cast as bogeymen but the film…

Quite an enjoyable movie with decent acting and good storyline.
A sobering reflection on war in general and the misery it causes for all sides involved.
