Okay remake. The supporting cast is pretty solid. Excellent acting from the cast and Wahlberg that gives him a chance to not play a "hero". Ending changed from the original, but it made it less ambiguous. However, the romance…

Despite being a gambler, Mr. Bennett rids himself of having double roles!

The best thing about this film is that it might get people interested to watch the much-better film, The Gambler (1974), that this bomb remakes and remixes. In that original picture, James Caan plays the Marky Mark role, and actually acts…

During the movie I was tempted to stop watching it few times. But, after the movie finished, I concluded that I actually liked it. I think it's worth watching.

Raunchy and completely surreal. (i.e. Hollywood Horseshit) Also, the author's completely BS pontificating about "life", through Wahlberg's character and John Goodman's character "lectures", is annoying, to say the least. However, as…

I found this movie boring almost from the beginning. Did not watch much of it.

At one point in THE GAMBLER, Brie Larson's character points out that Mark Wahlberg's character is someone with no problems that has to invent them instead just to be sour. That is exactly the problem with this swollen pustule of a film,…

After reading over the other comments Im relieved to know Im not missing something. Total waste of time as there seems to be no point. Whalburg's charachter doesn't jive with whats known about addicts...they do care what happens them &…

"The Gambler", Mark Wahlberg, 2014, is drab to the point of depressing. Haven't we seen this character who bets his life on the roll or a die or the color of a card? I didn't want to see John Goodman's body when he was 21 let alone at a…

I really did not see the point of this movie - an hour was enough.

Not one of Wahlberg's better movies.

Hard to get in to at first, particularly due to Wahlberg's delivery of pyscho-babble apathy which really only applies to himself. Great supporting cast and after a while you start to see a little bit of everyone in Wahlberg's character. …

I have tried three times to get through this, falling asleep after 20 minutes, then again after another 15 minutes, then after a day trying again from where I left off and turning it off...there is absolutely nothing going on in this…

Kinda Interesting. Mark shines as a professor who tells it like it is, making you like his candor. Then Mark displays his weak side as a gambler, which is bland and distasteful. You wonder where everything is going because its made obvious…

This is a terrible movie! Who told Mark Wahlberg he could act? He has one expression through the entire movie. Maybe another actor would have helped this movie but I kind of doubt it. Such a waste of time.

I saw this in the Movie Theater. This drama is full in intrique. The only problem I had was the casting of Mark Wahlberg as the main character as the English Professor. Most of times he plays cops and tough guys. But the studios have…

terrible movie... most of it went into making your protagonist a complete idiot and addict. He's surrounded by useless students and even more useless loan sharks. In summary, it's about a suicidal man who doesn't actually overcome…

Not run of the mill but intelligent story of a gambling addict who is "the grandson of the 17th-richest man in California" and his last gamble for a chance to start again with a clean slate from menacing creditors.

The story was a similar one, so I'm guessing this is a re-make of an older movie. It's about average. Somewhat entertaining. Story is a bit unbelievable, but the cast is solid.

it was intellectually challenging movie only in the sense of trying to figure out why would anyone watched it. Don't bother.

This is a terrible movie. Marky Mark’s character is awful, the writing is bad and it’s just a worthless movie. Stay away.

I guess this is suppose to be a slick, stylized movie, but it was not that nor interesting enough for me to care much for the characters. At least i was not insulted by the script or director to have sympathy for the main character.
