What a wonderful movie, much better than expected. Good reason most of the ratings were 5 star.

I had no idea that this event happened in 1926. There were enough people in Mexico willing to die for their religious freedom that they were able to turn things around. This is their story. What would happen in the US if the same thing…

It was very sad to watch but inspiring. It's a great movie but I reccomend that children under twelve not watch it until they're older because it's a bit graphic in some scenes.

The film is a bit black-and-white in its portrayal of events (never once do Federales soldiers bat an eye as they execute their heinous deeds, Cristeros are nearly all noble, or at least die nobly), but it works extremely well as a…

Brutal socialist government of Mexico in the 20's tries to destroy religious freedom. Christians fight back. Death toll 90,000,

This is a very good film that deserved a much larger cinematic audience. Ten of thousands of real-life Mexicans died in La Cristiada. The film tells the story of a struggle for freedom waged by every day people and some parish priests…

Fascinating movie about relatively recent Mexican history (1926-1929) of which I was not aware.

Interesting and well made film about conflict between political and religious powerhouses. Andy Garcia puts in a strong performance, as does the rest of this fine cast. All boils down to political oppression against the masses in a classic…

This is an excellent movie. I recommend it for any Catholic. It is very sad that this period in Mexican history is almost forgotten. Hopefully this movie will help that.

True story? Like Hell! President Calles tried to implement the principles of the Mexican revolution and the Constitution of 1917, including having the Church pay taxes, and not participate in politics, etc. The Church wanted to keep its…

Wow! From the lack of reviews and any other mention of this film I was thinking that it must be a low budget "B" type film. WRONG! It cannot be characterized as a blockbuster, but the whole production is first rate, and is one of the…

A sad but very true story that not only has been absent from American history, but was excised from Mexico's history books as well. This movie is historically accurate. well written, well acted, and totally ignored by Hollywood and our…

Beautifully filmed and an eye-opener in terms of what is an almost forgotten era in Mexican history. Otherwise, fairly tedious and po-faced. I can best describe it as a ponderous blend of spaghetti western and sand-and-sandals religious…

Very drawn-out, I found, with a lot of emphasis on showing it's serious history and on the colourful aspects of its main characters - pipe-smokers, guys with hyperfancy moustaches, etc. To my tastes, although it's rich with incident and no…

Movie kept on moving fast and kept you interested. It was a tragic, dark story that is better not viewed by younger people, It is a good way to learn about Mexican history

I learned something about Mexican history that I was totally unaware of. Considering how Catholic Mexico is, it's very surprising that the Catholic church was persecuted not all that many years before I was born. It was a pretty well…

Not bad. Don't know how true the story is but fairly credible script, good acting and good action. Worthwhile.
