Events › The Underground Railroad Connected to the Blue Island Ridge

The Underground Railroad (UGRR), the network to freedom for those escaping slavery in the southern states, was very active in the Chicago area and throughout Northern Illinois in the years surrounding the U.S. Civil War. Although they were not part of the official UGRR, there are first-hand stories of local efforts to help the freedom seekers. Come celebrate Juneteenth with stories of heroic escape to freedom!

Carol Flynn is a local historian and journalist who has been sharing history stories about the Ridge communities for more than twenty years. She runs the Facebook page “Beverly-Morgan Park History” and is a contributing writer to the Beverly Review newspaper.
