Constructive Comix: Folklore You Can Feel

3:30 PM – 4:30 PM
Logan Square

Description

How do textiles hold memories? What is a story that only you can tell?

In this program participants will create a tactile abstract ground using mixed media methods such as collage, weaving, painting, and drawing and infuse the work with tangible textiles. Each artist's unique personal narrative of choice will be visually translated into a textured comic in the format of a haptic zine (self-published booklet).

All supplies will be provided for participants, although artists are invited to bring any personally significant textiles, stories, and ephemera with which to story-tell and collage.

Emma Rosengarten is a cartoonist, illustrator, art teacher and researcher studying in the MFA in Comix program at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Since 2015 she has been teaching bilingual mixed media visual art at camps, clubs, CPS schools, and SAIC.

This event is for teens ages 13-19.

Radical Fit is a Chicago Public Library YOUmedia initiative dedicated to teen fashion-making with a special focus on gender identity and equity.
