Stitch the City with StitchGawd, Maker-in-Residence

2:30 PM – 4:00 PM
Harold Washington Library Center

Description

With the guidance of Maker-in-Residence Emma (aka StitchGawd), learn how to do 1-3 different hand stitches, a backstitch, a running stitch, or a chain stitch using thread on denim. Participants will then be asked to draw something from their neighborhood, whether it is the name of the neighborhood, a famous landmark, a person, a pet, whatever it is that is emblematic of their community. The goal is to sew all of these small stitches onto a map of the city to create a collaborative map of our city as part of the Maker-in-Resident program. Participants will also be gifted kits to sew their own tiny Harold Washington Library in the same fashion as the denim map.
