Description

Join us for the highly acclaimed comedy/drama touted by critics as a masterpiece, Paterson from renowned filmmaker Jim Jarmusch, to celebrate National Poetry Month. Group discussion of the film to follow right after featuring your friendly librarian host and special guest!

The film stars Adam Driver as a bus driver and poet named Paterson, and Golshifteh Farahani as his wife, who dreams of being a country music star and opening a cupcake business as the two live out their day-to-day life in Paterson, New Jersey. Paterson gets up early and goes to work, where he listens to passengers talking and, during breaks at work, writes poetry in a notebook.

After work he walks Marvin, the family dog, and stops for a beer at Shades Bar, where he interacts with the other patrons and the owner. This slow, simple story builds to an accidental circumstance that, on the surface, might not seem like a big deal—but in the context of Paterson’s universe, resonates with tragic connotations. This wonderful indie film is a quiet observation of the triumphs and defeats of daily life, along with the poetry evident even in its smallest details.
