Please join us for a piano performance by Gerald Rizzer, featuring a fantasy and three sonatas. The D Minor
fantasy moves from plaintive to triumphant, with passages of soloistic display. The Eb Major sonata opens, atypically, with a lyrical slow movement, both elegant and touching. A minuet, the dance form most often incorporated into their works by composers of the Classical period, and then a playfully ebullient finale complete the sonata.
Gerald Rizzer, pianist, is the founder and artistic director of The Chicago Ensemble, which presented subscription series of chamber music concerts for 45 seasons. He holds degrees from the University of Chicago and Yale, and he also attended Juilliard.
For many years, Mr. Rizzer taught piano, theory and ensemble at Sherwood Community Music School and music appreciation courses at DePaul. He composed the music for several shows which were performed at Theater Building Chicago and has recorded five CDs of his own short piano pieces, the most recent release having occurred just recently.
