The Music of Central Asia with Tamir Hargana

5:30 PM – 6:30 PM
Blackstone

Description

Please join us for an introduction to the music of Central Asia with singer and multi-instrumentalist Tamir Hargana.  A native of Mongolia, Mr. Hargana is an expert in khoomii (Mongolian and Tuvan overtone throat singing) and several types of folk instruments, including the morin khuur (Horse-head fiddle), Tuvan fiddle (igil), Tuvan lute (doshpuluur), and Mongolian lute (tovshuur). He will demonstrate the technique of traditional throat singing and explain the background and differences between the Mongolian and Tuvan style. He will also demonstrate how to accompany throat singing with traditional instruments and participants will have an opportunity to practice throat singing techniques.

Tamir Hargana is an award-winning singer who has competed throughout Central Asia and China.  He recently completed a master's degree in music from Northern Illinois University.
