Spikes and Studs

12:00 PM – 1:00 PM
Portage-Cragin

Description

Tired of old jackets or bags not looking cool? Bring an old item of your choice that you think deserves a spikey edge to it! In the spiking and studding class with Benji you’ll learn various forms of metal applications to bring new life to accessories or garments!

All supplies will be provided for participants, except for the item that is going to be decorated. Participants must bring their own jacket, shirt, bracelet, backpack and/or other garment to decorate. We recommend bringing an item made of a thicker material, like denim, canvas or leather. Feel free to bring multiple items.

Benji Morino is a queer artist living in Chicago focused on fashion and fashion accessories based on metal applications. They've been adding spikes and studs to their own clothes for 10 years, and has helped make garments and accessories for others for about 5 years. Focusing on art in fashion, they work mostly with metal application to structure garments and accessories.

This event is for teens ages 13-19.

Radical Fit is a Chicago Public Library YOUmedia initiative dedicated to teen fashion-making with a special focus on gender identity and equity.
