Body of Poetics Poetry Workshop with Madison Mae Parker

2:00 PM – 3:30 PM
Daley, Richard J.-Bridgeport

Description

Madison Mae Parker explores the body as the first source of wisdom and language. Exploring bodily metaphors and symbols poets have used throughout time, writers who attend this workshop will learn how to listen and respond to their own bodily intuition in order to create their own body of poetics, their own language of the body. In western culture, the body is often ignored or simply disconnected from the whole, viewed more as a machine of production, but what happens when we center the body in our own becoming, in our creative process, our own imagination? What possibilities, on and off the page, are restored through this bodily knowledge?

Madison Mae Parker (RSME/T, MFA) is a writer, performer, arts doula, ritual artist, somatic educator, and space-maker. Voted as best poet in Kansas City, Missouri in 2022 by The Pitch Magazine, and alongside being a Poet-in-Residence with the Chicago Poetry Center, she leads a weekly reading and somatic circle in Chicago where folks can explore language in the body.
