Description

Mississippi Blues Trail Marker in Grant Park

Join us for our next meeting of the Paper, Vinyl and Song book club. The program explores artists through books and music. A recommended reading list is available, and we will play vintage vinyl provided by the Old Town School of Folk Music Resource Center. Musicians from the Old Town School of Folk Music will be on-hand to play selected tunes from the artist.

This session we will be exploring Chicago Blues. Focusing on the artists Muddy Waters, Koko Taylor and Big Bill Broonzy, we will delve into the history and influence of the Chicago Blues. Attendees will be able to view Big Bill Broonzy's guitar, from the Old Town School of Folk Music collection, up close and personal.

Bear Williams will perform a selection of Chicago Blues. Mr. Williams, aka (Larry Kimpel) 2023 Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award Winner, is a Chicago-Based Blues/Folk Artist who records and tours internationally. In addition to his recording, songwriting, and production work, Bear is extremely passionate about sharing his musical knowledge with anyone that desires to learn the craft. He is the co-founder of GVR Records distributed by INgrooves/Razor’s Edge/Virgin Music Group.
