
Join us for a virtual reading and Q&A with 2024 Disability Futures Fellow, Walela Nehanda, on their debut memoir, Bless the Blood.
Walela Nehanda is a nonbinary cultural worker, writer, facilitator, stem cell transplant and cancer survivor, and mental health advocate born and based in Los Angeles, California. Their writing has been featured in Time Magazine, SELF Magazine, The Cut, and Nylon Magazine. In Bless the Blood: A Cancer Memoir, Nehanda explores their experience with being diagnosed at twenty-three with advanced stage blood cancer; surviving racism, ableism, fatphobia, and queerphobia in the US medical system; and navigating evolving personal relationships.
