Join us for the second meeting of the Paper, Vinyl and Song book club. The program explores an artist through books and music. A recommended reading list will be available, and we will play vintage vinyl provided by the Old Town School of Folk Music Resource Center. Musicians from the Old Town School of Folk Music will be on-hand to play selected tunes from the artist.
This session our artist is Johnny Cash. We will discuss Johnny's career, focusing on his affinity for championing the underdog and marginalized people. We will play LPs from his extensive catalog and other artists, like the Carter Family, that are intrinsically associated with Cash. Please pick as many books (or none) as you would like to read from the Johnny Cash recommended reading list.
Rob Newhouse, a teacher from The Old Town School of Folk Music, will perform a selection of Johnny's tunes. In addition to teaching Wiggleworms, Rob plays guitar, piano and drums and has been writing, recording and performing music since 1975. Formerly with the Elvis Brothers, Rob has recorded three albums and toured worldwide. He appears on the Old Town School's CD, Song for Wiggleworms. and Laura Doherty’s In A Heartbeat.
