Description

A workshop to discuss how films use poetry and how poems use films: such as Andrei Tarkovsky, Lydia Lunch, Pier Paolo Pasolini and Yoko Ono; also, poets who direct films like Maya Angelou (Down in the Delta). There will be a showing of clips of more significant uses of poetry in film and TV shows such as Robert Frost’s “Nothing Gold Can Stay” in The Outsiders, “The Long-Distance Runner” in Out of Africa, the poetry episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Poetic Justice, as well as docs like Poetry in Motion and Words in Your Face and more.

In Vittorio Carli’s long tenure as a film critic, he has written for The Star newspapers, the Daily Herald and is currently doing reviews at alternatereality.com. He is also a former member of the Chicago Film Critics’ Society. His first poetry book, A Passion for Apathy, was published by Press of the 3rd Mind in 2012. His second book, Tape Worm Salad with Olive Oil for Extra Flavor came out in 2018. His poems have appeared in numerous local and national publications.
