In honor of Polish American Heritage Month, this event will feature a remarkable panel of talented writers Polish American female authors that will take you on a journey through their captivating stories and share their unique perspectives on culture, heritage, and the power of words.
Mary Wisniewski
Mary is the author of Algren. Mary has been a Chicago reporter, editor and writer for publications such as Chicago Tribune and Sun-Times, City New Bureau, Reuters and Bloomberg. She is currently on the board of both the Society of Midland Authors and the Nelson Algren committee, whom she wrote a 2017 wonderfully-reviewed biography.
JoAnne Gazarek-Bloom
JoAnne is the coauthor of the book Bridgeport. JoAnne is Chicago through and through by way of Bridgeport. She roots for the White Sox, and has written an Images of America book about her neighborhood, all the while teaching law at Loyola University Law School.
Donna Solecka Urbikas
Donna is the author of My Sister's Mother. Donna is an award-winning author and finalist in the Chicago Writers Association, Society of Midland Authors, Midwest Book Awards (as part of the Midwest Independent Publishers Association), and Bronze Winner of Foreword INDIES Book Award.
Victoria Granacki
Victoria is an avid art collector and author of Chicago's Polish Downtown. She is formerly of the City of Chicago Planning Department as well as an advocate for the preservation of historic buildings around the city.
Dan Pogorzelski
Dan is an author who has written books about Portage Park, Logan Square and co-authored Victoria Granacki’s book about Bridgeport. Dan is the moderator of the panel and will ensure a lively and interesting discussion about the wonderful work of authors of Polish descent in Chicago.
