South Shore: A Community Transformed

3:00 PM – 4:00 PM
South Shore

Description

Every Chicago community area has known change. Over the past sixty years, the South Shore neighborhood has seen its fair share. The area continues to be defined by its diverse population, along with vital public spaces, such as Rainbow Beach, Arthur Ashe Park, and the South Shore Country Club. This walk led by author and urbanologist Max Grinnell will introduce visitors to these unique spaces and also provide some historical context for understanding this vibrant place. In keeping with the theme of this year’s One Book, we’ll also learn a bit about how Native Americans made a home amidst this section of the South Side in centuries past.
