Please join photographers Melvin Cade Jr, Tafari Melisizwe, and Sulyiman Stokes at our 150th celebration and have your photo or family photo taken.
Melvin Cade, Jr is a film photographer based in Chicago focused primarily on black and white architectural photography. His practice is based in documenting of what we see in our daily lives and how small changes affect our reality over time. His photographic work is inspired by his community, love for our built environment, and commitment to archives.
Tafari Melisizwe is a Black and White photographer based in Chicago, IL. Through photojournalistic-style portrait photography, Melisizwe participates in historical and contemporary relationships between people of African ancestry in an effort to forge meaningful understandings and connections along the continuing lines of language, geography, culture, and history.
Sulyiman Stokes is a self-taught interdisciplinary artist from the South Side of Chicago whose sole focus is telling Black folks’ stories. Though music and photography are his primary areas of exploration, he regularly immerses himself in whatever medium is available to him to maximize expression. Capturing and keeping a record of the ways Black folk struggle toward liberation by way of his work is his contribution to the very same pursuit.
