Modern Landscapes Workshop with the Art Institute of Chicago

1:00 PM – 2:30 PM
Chinatown

Description

The Art Institute of Chicago is pleased to present an artmaking program inspired by our summer exhibition, Van Gogh and the Avant-Garde: The Modern Landscape. The exhibition explores how, in the late 19th century in Paris, Vincent Van Gogh and his contemporaries looked to the evolving physical and social landscapes along the city’s edges for fresh creative inspiration. While painting familiar sights such as bridges, factories, and parks, this set of artists engaged in bold stylistic experimentation.

In this workshop, participants will use watercolor to paint urban landscapes of Chicago, either from photographs or from direct observation of the library's setting. Participants will also be encouraged to make collaborative paintings with each other.

This workshop is open to participants of all experience levels, from beginner to advanced artists. All necessary supplies will be provided. Participants may bring water-based paints only.
