Portrait Stories with Photographer Sulyiman Stokes

1:00 PM – 3:00 PM
Art Institute of Chicago

Join the Art Institute of Chicago for a portrait workshop led by interdisciplinary artist Sulyiman Stokes! Stokes is one of ten Chicago-based artists and photographers featured in the exhibition A Lion for Every House, organized by the Floating Museum.

This interactive gallery tour will feature Stokes's favorite artworks from the museum's collection. We'll spend time in A Lion for Every House learning more about Stokes's creative practice and the story of the exhibition. The tour will culminate with Stokes leading a storytelling and portrait photography session in the galleries.

Sulyiman Stokes is a self-taught interdisciplinary artist from the South Side of Chicago whose sole focus is telling Black folks’ stories. Though music and photography are his primary areas of exploration, he regularly immerses himself in whatever medium is available to him to maximize expression. Capturing and keeping a record of the ways Black folk struggle toward liberation by way of his work is his contribution to the very same pursuit.
