Americans’ Ideas about Ancestry

6:30 PM – 7:30 PM
Albany Park

Francesca Morgan, the author of A Nation of Descendants, talks about the political dimensions of genealogy research. We'll look at how genealogy research sometimes reaffirmed white supremacist views and yet, on the other hand, genealogy research could also affirm struggles for freedom and citizenship. Tim Libretti, an Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Northeastern Illinois University will moderate the discussion with Morgan about her journey to trace genealogists' activities among American Jews, African Americans, Mormons, Native Americans, and Anglo Whites. A Q&A session and a book signing will follow the discussion.
