Join us in a discussion of the novel Afterlife by Julia Alvarez.
Antonia, a retired college professor and novelist, finds it hard to face life after her husband's sudden death. Her grieving process is upended by two turbulent, unrelated dramas: her oldest sister goes missing, and her two other sisters impose on her to help with the search; upon her return, she finds a pregnant, undocumented teenager hiding in her garage.
As Antonia weighs the needs of others against her own, she is guided by her experience of exuberant family love and memories of her husband's generosity of spirit.
