Describing Your Image

4:00 PM – 4:15 PM

Let's make accessibility weird and fun! In this tutorial, Blind media artist Andy will define image description and explore how its different methods can be used to share designs with an audience that is blind or has low vision. This program will identify the standards used in audio described video, alt text for image, and best practices for creating accessible social media content. We will then deconstruct those standards and learn how to apply creative forms of access exemplified by the work of disabled artists featured in this course. Fashion is a medium created to push boundaries. By making fashion accessible, we can dismantle many of the obstacles that the culture and industry have constructed.

This tutorial is led by Andy Slater. Andy is a Blind media artist from Chicago working in the mediums
of sound, extended reality, web art, science fiction, installation and performance.Much of his art is focused on accessibility, blind wayfinding, and sonic drifting. He is also a teaching artist with 3Arts, Young Soundseekers, and the Society of Visually Impaired Sound Artists.
