Beyond Grief: Writing the Elegy

1:00 PM – 3:00 PM

Description

This has been a year of loss and grief, not only of people we love but of the freedom to live our lives out in the world. Classical poets taught us to write poems that moved in three moments from mourning through celebration to consolation. More contemporary elegies sometimes refuse that consolation, except that the writing itself helps us move forward. We will read a variety of elegies and then write our own before sharing and responding to each other’s work.

Susanna Lang's chapbook, Self-Portraits was released in October 2020 by Blue Lyra Press, and her translation of Baalbek by Nohad Salameh is forthcoming in 2021 from L’Atelier du Grand Tétras.
