The Beautiful Crossing: Discussion with NEIU faculty and Alana Murphy

Join us as we discuss Exit West by Mohsin Hamid and themes of immigration, refugees and the challenges of facing us today with Northeastern Illinois University faculty members Tim Libretti (Acting Associate Dean of the English Dept., NEIU, Multi-Ethnic Literature), Maria De La Torre (Associate Professor and Acting Chair of Justice Studies & Latina/o and Latin American Studies, NEIU, Global Migration, and Social Justice), and Brad Greenburg (Professor of English, NEIU, author of When Lilacs Last in the Dooryard Bloomed), as well as Alana Murphy from The Beautiful Crossing, a platform for sharing stories from former refugees and asylum seekers. The panelists will discuss emigration and refugee challenges based on their research areas and experiences. We will also talk about the writing style and tone of the Exit West, which is both sharply current and dreamily magical.
