Learning Circle – Citizen Politics in America: Public Opinion, Elections, Interest Groups, and the Media

Blackstone

Description

Public opinion has a powerful yet inexact influence on elected officials. Politicians risk their careers if they ignore it, yet its power is not easy to capture nor quantify. This 6 week hands-on course will look at how political parties, campaigns, social movements, special interests, and the news media all play a role in influencing public opinion. This course will also help you to understand how these forces shape American politics, from "invisible primaries" to Election Day and beyond.

A Learning circle is an in-person study group for learners who want to complete online courses with other people. It is free for everyone. You need to sign up on the P2PU website or in person at our 1st session. Please bring your own laptop or call the library to reserve one of the library laptops. For more information call Sally at Blackstone at (312) 747-0511.
