Scared the willies out of me the first time I saw it years ago.

A decent take on an old sci fi theme but too predictable at times. Still, a great horror thriller movie.

The ground breaking classic !,.. and should be on evey list for 10 Best Sci-fi Films. ...I'd had no preview of it, and saw it for the first time from the balcony in a huge deserted deeply darkened theater that was like being suspended in outter space itself. And then the male 'hero' got killed !...whaaa ?!! (Some don't seem to realize how much this movie changed everything that came afterwards.) P.S. Kev's PICkS : For an intresting perspective, compare this heroine with the female lead in "The Creature From the Black Lagoon".

One of the best films I have seen in this year. It was entertaining and interesting. Great performances a must see for all. Truly a really great movie worth the long library wait or the price to rent from a Red Box. Well worth the price of admission to any theater.

In space no one can hear you fart! A classic! [second only to the sequel, Aliens]

The crew of a commercial spaceship is awaken by an SOS from a distant planet. A crew member goes to investigate, and finds thousands of alien eggs. One of the parasites inside attacks him as he inspects it. They take back off for earth and the parasite dies, but what they don't realize is that an alien is growing in the host, and when it's ready to come out, no one on board is safe.

(There is a lot more to this story, but that's the general plot)

I saw this movie way back in the day and always wanted to see the director’s cut of this movie. Well I have to say this movie really stands up well. No cheesy music or special effects. Just a well written and acted movie. No idea why they would cut out some of the scenes for the theatrical version. My only beef is that at times it can be hard to hear the actors, low talking\mumbling. If you liked it way back in the day you will like this again, if you haven’t seen this watch it!!!

Well, at this point, what could I possibly say about 1979's Alien that (in the past 35 years) hasn't already been said about 100x before?

It's actually quite surprising to see that after all of these many years (and after all of its many imitators) Alien still rocks when it comes to its shocks.

Whenever discussing Alien there's one very important person, directly involved in its production, who I find rarely gets any mention or recognition for his vitally important contribution to this Sci-Fi/Thriller.

And that person is Swiss-born, fantasy artist, H.R. Giger who was the one responsible for the design of this truly awesome and terrifying creature with its acid blood and its ferocious appetite to match.

You can be sure, without Giger's fabulously fantastic creation, this Sci-Fi/Shocker would have never had the enduring impact that it inevitably has had over these many years.

On May 12, 2014, Hans Rudolf Giger (at 74) died in Zurich, Switzerland. In respectful memory of this man, I believe Sci-Fi/Horror movie fans everywhere owe this dude plenty of well-deserved credit and thanks.

I found it to be more science fiction than horror

See this film in a movie theatre in 1979, without much knowledge of what it is about, maybe just that it is one of the critics’ picks and the critics are mostly saying that it is a masterpiece. Back in 1979, there were no movies about contract workers on a space ship discussing work conditions, etc., arguing whether they should put in the extra effort to determine if there was a strange life-form out there on some planet. And some of your co-workers may have been a life-like robot camouflaged as a human who might just not be as scared as you about losing your life. Etc. etc. etc. Too bad, the experience is no longer possible. The last 35 years of space and strange life-form films have polluted the air waves with numerous inferior films. One can no longer really experience the film like when it first came out – a film like no other film. But I can still feel some of the originality where others seeing it for the first time see nothing special.

A science fiction movie that is also a great suspense film; a suspense film that is also a horror classic. Terrifying, brilliant, and NOT for children.
